Dave Phillipps

I have been practising Tai Chi for over 25 years and been teaching for the last ten years. As well as regular classes I have taught short courses and groups in a nursing home. I am a Tuina practitioner and also enjoy cycling, walking and photography. Another interest is leading discussion groups for the International Hermaneutic Society which I have done for the past 25 years.

I fell into martial arts in my late 30’s when my son showed an interest. I found a hobby/sport I could actually do and get benefit from that did not bore me! Kong Sudo and Tai chi are polar opposites in my eyes, with the Kong sudo, hard and rushing down the river to crush the opposition. Then the T’ai Chi much softer and flowing through the boulders winding its way downstream forcing all off its path.

At 51, Neil has been training in martial arts for 40 years. His passion and commitment to training lead to the foundation of the UK Kung Fu School. With extensive training and travelling in China, Neil now teaches both junior and adult classes.

Dave Bright

Sifu Dave has trained under several high level Wing Chun practitioners in Europe, and in more recent years to Hong Kong to learn (amongst other things) the Tang family version of the Luk Dim Boon Kwun (6 ½ point pole). It’s the same drive that has also seen him complete a BSc in Sports Coaching Science and an MSc in Sports Psychology at the University of Chichester, where he is now a senior lecturer in sports coaching.

I began in 1998 with Bob Lowey’s 7 Stars School and in 2002 I became an instructor.
Having met Canadian Sam Masich at Tai Chi Caledonia in 2007, I subsequently attended his workshops covering various aspects of Taijiquan and became his student. In 2019 I was honoured to have him accept me as an indoor student in private and public baishi ceremonies .
