BCCMA Professional Standard COACH (Part 1) [Endorsed by CIMSPA]

Date: 18/01/2026 Price: £65.00

Non Member Price: £100

This course is only open to BCCMA members and non-members who have completed and passed the NGB level 2 course within the past 3 years.    The course is still in two parts but has been designed to remove duplication of content already covered, so will be considerably shorter in time. The knowledge and skills requirements of the Professional Standard remain the same and you will be required to evidence these requirements via home assignments. However, a portfolio for evidence will be provided with examples and advice for each of these requirements to save you time and the need to reinvent the wheel.  In all cases it is expected that participants have completed at least 3 years martial arts practice and have achieved black belt or equivalent level in their chosen specialism.

The course is offered to coaches wishing to meet the new professional standard COACH level set by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, (CIMSPA).  Qualification and registration with CIMSPA will put you ahead of the field when in 2027, it is expected that all coaches in the sport and recreation sector in the UK, will be required to be registered in the National workforce governance and registration scheme. This scheme is currently on trial with 15 National Governing Bodies of sport who already receive Sport England Funding. The scheduled date for National rollout has been set for early 2027.

Please do not book onto this course if you have not completed and passed a NGB level 2 within the past 3 years. If in doubt, please email coaching@bccma.com before you book. Any money refunded will be subject to 5% administration fee to cover costs.

Overview

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, (CIMSPA), is the UK’s professional development body, set up by the government and sponsored by Sport England, for the sport and physical activity sector.

CIMSPA Professional Standards

In partnership with a wide range of leisure industry employers, awarding organisations and technical experts, CIMSPA have developed, and continue to create professional standards that define what a person in a specific professional role (e.g., Coach, personal trainer, group exercise instructor) must know in term of knowledge, and be able to do in terms of their skills.

CIMSPA’ S professional standards serve as a framework for specific roles and occupations within the sector so that there is a unified and standardised set of criteria that the whole sector can get behind.

The BCCMA Professional Standard Coach course (Endorsed by CIMSPA) is split into two parts, Part 1 looking at Participant Experience, Participant Welfare, Roles of the coach/team and Professional Practice. Part 2 looking at the 3 stages of the coaching process Planning, Delivering and Reviewing.

Please note: Part 2 can only be booked on completion of Part 1.  The course is a mixture of Lecture, syndicate exercises and home assignments. The participant is expected to fulfil all of the knowledge and skills requirements stipulated in the Professional Standard.
